NPFL summons Lobi Stars media officer over match-fixing allegations

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has summoned Emmanuel Ujah, the media officer of Lobi Stars, following serious allegations of match-fixing involving players of the Makurdi-based club.

Ujah allegedly accused some players of the club of engaging in betting activities on league matches—a claim he reportedly made both in written form and in an audio recording. The gravity of the accusation has prompted swift action from the league authorities.

A disciplinary panel has been convened today, with Ujah expected to appear before it to provide further clarification and present any evidence to substantiate his claims.

Reacting to the situation, NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, stated that Ujah’s comments constitute a clear violation of the League’s Code of Conduct for Officials. He stressed that such remarks not only threaten the integrity of the league but also cast a shadow over its governance framework.

Owumi also described the allegations as highly damaging to the reputation of the NPFL and its stakeholders, emphasizing the need for responsible communication, especially from league insiders.
