NPFL slams shooting stars with ₦5m fine over crowd violence

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has handed down a ₦5 million fine to Shooting Stars of Ibadan following disturbing scenes of crowd violence during their Matchday 32 clash against Ikorodu City.
According to reports, irate supporters of the home side held Ikorodu City players hostage and vandalised the visitors’ team bus after the final whistle—actions that prompted swift disciplinary measures from the league authorities.
As part of the sanctions, Shooting Stars fans have also been barred from attending the club’s remaining home fixtures at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, a move aimed at curbing further unrest.

The club was found guilty on three serious counts: failure to provide adequate security, inability to control their supporters—leading to an attack on the opposing team—and the throwing of dangerous objects onto the pitch.
Shooting Stars now have 48 hours to either accept the ruling or file an appeal.
