The Niger State Police Command has announced the arrest of 82 suspected thugs in a sweeping operation aimed at restoring law and order across troubled communities in the state.

The crackdown follows a directive by the Deputy Governor of Niger State, who recently ordered community heads to identify and flush out criminal elements in their areas. Acting on this directive, police intensified operations in hotspot zones, particularly within the Minna metropolis.

Confirming the development in a statement, the spokesman of the police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun said on April 8 at about 2am, the Police Command mobilised tactical units and stormed criminal hideouts in the areas of Kateren-Gwari/Kwangila communities as fifteen miscreants were arrested.

He added that exhibits recovered from them include three sticks, four phones, two cutlasses, one axe, three daggers, suspected cannabis, shisha pot, two scissors, cable wire, one I.D card, torchlight, and charms.

All suspects will also be transferred to SCID for further necessary action while monitoring continues as normalcy has been restored in the area while the raid operation is being sustained.
