House of Reps’ member dumps PDP for APC in Akwa Ibom

In a significant political development, Esset Mark Udo, a member of the House of Representatives, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Udo, who represents the Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Asutan/Ibesikpo Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, announced his decision during the House plenary session held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The lawmaker, who currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Interparliamentary Relations, did not offer detailed reasons for his defection during the session. However, his move marks a notable shift in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape, especially as parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter addressed to the leadership of the Green Chamber, Udo said, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“As a representative of Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Asutan/Ibesikpo federal constituency of Akwa Ibom State, I have already tendered my resignation letter to my former party, PDP.
“I have joined the APC both at my ward level, the Local Government Level and the state level.
“This was after due consultations with my constituents, this position is due to the irreconcilable crisis rocking the party, PDP at the national level.”
