There’s a wave of relief and celebration in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following the safe return of the traditional ruler, the Sangarin Dari, who was abducted from his palace on May 28, 2025.

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the successful rescue in an official statement released on Tuesday. According to the police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the monarch was found unhurt and safely recovered around 9:00 p.m. on June 2, 2025.

The rescue mission, which was executed in collaboration with other security agencies, marks a significant success in the ongoing battle against insecurity in the region. While the police did not reveal whether a ransom was paid or if any suspects were apprehended, they assured the public that the traditional ruler is currently receiving proper care.

“The rescue operation took place in the Panwasa Mountains, Mada Station, following sustained pressure from the Command’s search and rescue team,” the statement read.

The monarch has been taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and has since been reunited with his family.

The police further assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene.

Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the public for their support and timely information, which greatly aided the rescue operation.
