60-year-old woman murdered in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a male suspect in connection with the brutal murder of a 60-year-old woman, identified as Rose Awoke, in Egugho, Ezzagu, Ishielu Local Government Area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the tragic incident occurred on Monday. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect allegedly attacked the elderly woman and inflicted fatal injuries by hitting her multiple times.

Ukandu disclosed the arrest on Tuesday in Abakaliki, assuring the public that the command is committed to ensuring that justice is served. He added that a thorough investigation has been launched to uncover the motive behind the gruesome act.

According to him, on Monday, at about 0600 hours, the command received a report that the suspect who lives in the same compound with the deceased at Egugho Ezzagu in the Ishielu Local Government Area, attacked and murdered her.

He said, “The suspect murdered the deceased by hitting her several times with a shovel and abandoned her in a pool of her blood. The officers of the command were able to apprehend him before he could flee.”

Mr Ukandu disclosed that the command was currently investigating the incident to understand the motive behind the brazen attack.
