Young woman stabbed to death by boyfriend in Akwa Ibom

A horrifying case of domestic violence has sent shockwaves through Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, as a young woman identified as Ruth Sunday was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend during a violent altercation.
According to a statement from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the fatal incident occurred at Qua River Quarters in Eket.
Spokesperson DSP Timfon John confirmed that the couple got into a heated argument that escalated into a deadly knife fight, ultimately leading to Ruth’s untimely death.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the argument turned physical and both parties suffered stab wounds. Sadly, Ruth Sunday could not survive the injuries and was pronounced dead. The identity and current condition of the boyfriend remain unconfirmed at the time of this report.
DSP John assured the public that the police have launched a thorough investigation into the matter and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice is served.

“At approximately 10:15 AM on the 6th of May, 2025, operatives of the Command received information regarding a violent altercation at Qua River Quarters, Eket.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a female, later identified as Ruth Ngozi Sunday, and her cohabiting boyfriend lying in a pool of blood.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple engaged in a fatal fight involving a kitchen knife, resulting in both individuals sustaining stab wounds. The cause of the altercation is currently unknown,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson added that Ruth was found lifeless at the scene, while her boyfriend, who was critically injured, was rushed to the hospital alongside her. Ruth was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The suspected murder weapon has been recovered, and efforts are underway to locate the boyfriend’s relatives, while the family of the deceased has been contacted.
