Devastating fire engulfs Rijiyar Zaki Kwanar Yan Kifi in Kano, destroying shops, vehicles, classrooms

A fierce fire broke out on Sunday afternoon in the Rijiyar Zaki Kwanar Yan Kifi area of Kano, causing extensive damage to several shops, vehicles, and classrooms.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident through an official statement.
The fire was reported to the service at 1:53 p.m. by a local resident, Hamza Muhammad, as confirmed by the Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
Emergency responders from the Fire Service headquarters, as well as crews from Rijiyar Zaki and Bompai stations, swiftly mobilized to the scene to battle the flames and contain the damage.
“Upon arrival, our men found that a ground-floor building measuring about 100 by 50 feet, used for multiple businesses, had caught fire,” Abdullahi stated.
“Three shops in front of the building, three vehicles, seven classrooms, one office, and two toilets were affected by the blaze.”
He explained that the fire started when gas cylinders were offloaded from a J5 vehicle, with an unidentified registration number into one of the shops used by a gas vendor. Two other shops nearby were also affected.

“The fire spread rapidly and engulfed a private school popularly known as Young Marshall Science Academy,” he said.
“Seven classrooms were destroyed by the fire, while one shop used by the gas vendor was completely alight.”
Abdullahi noted that despite the intensity of the fire, the firemen were able to contain the incident and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building.
“With God’s intervention and the timely response of our men, the fire was successfully contained to the affected area,” he said. “The remaining shops, classrooms, and one vehicle were saved during the operation.”
He added that while three shops, two vehicles, and seven classrooms were badly affected, a third vehicle was only slightly damaged.
No injuries or loss of life were recorded during the incident.
Abdullahi also disclosed that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
