Super Eagles begin camp for W’Cup qualifiers against Rwanda, South Africa

The Super Eagles have kicked off preparations for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, with key players arriving at the national team’s camp.

Among the first to arrive at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Monday were captain William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, and Raphael Onyedika. Joining them were stars like Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, along with ten other squad members.

Team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed that an additional nine players joined the camp on Tuesday, marking the official start of the Eagles’ preparation for the crucial matches.

The likes of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, and Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Adebayo Adeleye, and Benjamin Fredericks are the latest arrivals in camp.

The remaining 10 players are expected in camp on Tuesday night ahead of the team’s first training session.

Efoghe said: “A total of 13 players are currently in camp, and we are expecting the rest of the squad to arrive later today and early tomorrow.

“There will be a press conference with the coaching staff and selected players on Wednesday at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

“For Friday, the pre-match press conference will hold at the same venue, and the first 15 minutes of the team’s training session will be open to media coverage.”

The likes of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali; defender Bruno Onyemaechi; midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka; and forwards Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Cyriel Dessers, Christantus Uche, and Tolu Arokodare are still being expected to join the camp.

Nigeria will take on Rwanda on Saturday, September 6 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before battling it out with South Africa six days later at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The Super Eagles currently occupy the fourth position in Group C with seven points from six games after winning just one, drawing four, and losing one.
