Tragedy strikes as Phyna’s sister, Ruth Otabor, passes away in hospital

The Otabor family has been thrown into mourning following the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna.

Ruth, who had been battling severe injuries sustained in a recent road accident, sadly passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m. Her passing was confirmed in a statement issued by the family through Eko Solicitors & Advocates.

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.

They appealed for privacy during their period of mourning.

“The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” it added.

Ruth’s death follows a horrific crash on August 13 near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, where a truck linked to the Dangote Group crushed her leg. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was eventually halted by a bystander, but Ruth had to undergo an emergency amputation.

The tragedy occurred just six days after she graduated from Auchi Polytechnic, deepening the shock for loved ones and fans.
