Police recover AK-47, ammunition, unregistered motorcycle in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in the fight against illegal arms trafficking following the recovery of a cache of weapons and an unregistered motorcycle during a routine stop-and-search operation.
The operation, which took place on Saturday along the Giza-Kadarko road, led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle with breach number 0413, two magazines, several rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition, and a Bajaj motorcycle without a license plate.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the seizure was the result of credible intelligence indicating the movement of illegal arms in the area.
He stated, “On June 7, 2025, at about 16:00, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, received credible intelligence regarding the movement of a suspected criminal transporting arms and ammunition.
“Acting swiftly on this report, the Commissioner ordered a coordinated manhunt to apprehend the suspect.
“In compliance with these directives, police operatives from Giza Division mounted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Giza-Kadarko Road.

“During the operation, a suspicious individual riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle was intercepted.”
Nansel reported that the rider fled into the bush after being signaled to stop, abandoning both the motorcycle and the bag containing the arms.
A thorough search of the motorcycle led officers to the weapons cache.
The police spokesperson said the discovery “strongly suggests a connection to criminal activity,” and confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify the suspect and determine the source and intended destination of the weapons.
