Zambian president warns ministers against ‘indulgence’, dozing off in meetings

President Hakainde Hichilema has issued a stern warning to his ministers, cautioning them against dozing off during official meetings.

Speaking at a recent government gathering, Hichilema attributed the lapses in attentiveness to “indulgence” and a lack of self-control, urging his officials to demonstrate discipline in their duties.

“We cannot afford to have leaders who are not fully present during important discussions. It is a matter of commitment and responsibility,” the president stated.

Hichilema’s remarks come amid growing concerns over efficiency and accountability within the government. While he did not specify the nature of the “indulgence” he was referring to, his comments have sparked debate about professionalism and work ethic among public officials.

The Zambian leader has emphasized the need for a results-driven administration, urging ministers to uphold high standards in service delivery.

His latest remarks reinforce his commitment to governance that prioritizes focus and productivity.

Government insiders suggest that the president’s warning serves as a broader call for discipline, especially as Zambia navigates economic challenges and policy reforms.
