Kano mother of quintuplets dies after childbirth complications

Tragedy has struck in Kano State following the death of a woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, who recently gave birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

The heartbreaking incident was confirmed by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, spokesperson for the Kano State Ministry of Health, during a telephone interview on Thursday. According to him, the woman passed away around 2 a.m. at the hospital.

He explained that Hafsatu Yusuf developed severe complications after delivering the five babies—three boys and two girls—as she experienced persistent bleeding. Despite efforts by medical personnel to stabilise her condition, she could not be saved.

“She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” he said.

K/Na’isa added that the deceased had since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro.

“We are appealing to the public to support the babies with milk and other essential items,” he said.

He, however, confirmed that the newborns are in stable condition and are currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.
