Tragedy struck Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State on Friday when two suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs) detonated along the Goniri–Buni Yadi Road, claiming four lives and leaving at least 21 others injured.

The deadly explosions, reportedly carried out by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), occurred hours apart and targeted civilians heading to a local market.

The first blast hit a commercial pickup truck transporting traders to the Buni Yadi weekly market. The vehicle triggered an IED planted near Bultaram village, resulting in multiple casualties. Three victims were confirmed dead after being rushed to the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, while 21 others are currently receiving medical treatment for various degrees of injury.

A second explosion followed shortly after in the same area when a motorcyclist unknowingly rode over another hidden device. He was taken to Buni Yadi General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Security forces, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and members of local vigilante groups, were promptly dispatched to the scene to begin clearance operations and prevent further incidents.
