Kolade Otunla shatters record, wins gold for team Ogun at 2024 national sports festival

Team Ogun’s Kolade Otunla made waves at the 22nd National Sports Festival Gateway Games 2024 by not only clinching gold in the men’s 100m backstroke but also setting a new national and festival record.
Otunla blazed through the pool with a remarkable time of 1:02.41 seconds, smashing the previous record of 1:04.61 set by Abara Kuma Dilo of Rivers State in 2018. His historic swim has earned him national acclaim and reaffirmed Ogun State’s growing dominance in competitive swimming.
This landmark victory comes on the heels of another golden performance by his teammate, Omolola Tobiloba, who earlier triumphed in the women’s 800m freestyle. Together, the dynamic duo has energized Team Ogun’s medal campaign and sparked fresh optimism for the future of swimming in Nigeria.

Speaking after his win, Otunla expressed his ambition to represent Nigeria on the Olympic stage, signaling that this may just be the beginning of an exciting international journey.
