A major tragedy was narrowly avoided on Tuesday in Unity Estate, Alagbole-Akute area of Ogun State, when a telecommunication mast collapsed onto a residential building amid a heavy rainstorm, leaving the property severely damaged and the landlord injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the landlord was inside the building when the mast came crashing down. He sustained minor injuries and was quickly attended to by medical personnel. His condition has since been confirmed as stable.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola. She disclosed that the police received a distress call at approximately 2:39 p.m. on Tuesday from a resident, Mr. Moses Olalere, who alerted authorities to the emergency.

She said, “On June 3, 2025, at about 14:39 hrs, the Ogun State Police Command received a distress call from Mr. Moses Olalere reporting a natural disaster during a heavy downpour.
