Okigwe: Gunmen kill 2 police officers escorting Ebonyi Lawmaker

Two police officers attached to the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, were tragically killed in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in Okigwe, Imo State, on Sunday, August 3.
According to a report by Vanguard, the deadly incident occurred while the lawmaker and his entourage were traveling through the area. Trouble reportedly began when one of the vehicles in the convoy developed a mechanical fault, prompting some members of the security team—including the slain officers—to stay behind.
It was during this vulnerable moment that gunmen launched a surprise attack, killing the two officers on the spot. The lawmaker and the rest of the convoy, who had moved ahead, were unharmed.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, on Monday, vowed that the killers would be apprehended.

“There is no hiding place for those behind this heinous crime,” Okoye said. “The bodies of the officers, who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, have been evacuated to a morgue, and a thorough investigation is underway.”
He added that tactical teams have begun combing surrounding bushes in a manhunt for the perpetrators, promising that they will face the full wrath of the law.
