Breaking…D’Tigress honoured with OON, $100,000, flats after historic AfroBasket win

Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress, has been honoured by the Federal Government with national awards and generous gifts following their remarkable victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament.
President Bola Tinubu hosted the team at the Presidential Villa on Monday evening, where he announced that each player would receive the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a cash reward of $100,000, and a flat in appreciation of their outstanding achievement.
D’Tigress secured their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title — and seventh overall — after defeating Mali 78-64 in a hard-fought final on Sunday. The team’s performance has been widely celebrated as a testament to their skill, unity, and resilience.

President Tinubu praised the team for making the country proud on the continental stage and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting sports development in Nigeria.
The recognition follows similar honours bestowed upon the Super Falcons last week, after they clinched Nigeria’s 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
