Man fatally stabbed during funeral mass in Cross River

A tragic incident unfolded in Ikot Etim Bott Community, Akpabuyo Town, Cross River State, as a man identified as Gideon Nwosu from Enugu State was fatally stabbed during a funeral mass.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack occurred around 9:10 AM on March 7, 2025, when a suspect, identified as Efio Effion, allegedly stabbed Nwosu in the throat before fleeing the scene. The motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear.

Police officers from the Sting Unit Robot responded swiftly to a distress call, securing the area while the victim’s body was transported to the State Hospital mortuary for an autopsy and preservation.
Law enforcement authorities have launched an intensive investigation and are working to track down Effion, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
