EFCC nabs 28 suspected Yahoo Boys in Benin City

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of 28 suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo Boys,” in Benin City, Edo State.
According to a brief statement released on Thursday by the Commission, operatives from the Benin Zonal Directorate carried out the arrests on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The suspects were picked up at various locations across the city during a coordinated raid.
While the EFCC has yet to release the identities of the suspects, the Commission confirmed that the arrests were part of its ongoing efforts to clamp down on cybercrime and online fraud in Nigeria.

“The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities.
“Items recovered from them include five exotic cars, smartphones and laptop computers.
They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement said.
