Shettima receives gov Lawal into APC in Zamfara

Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Zamfara on Tuesday to formally welcome Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the governor’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to receive members of Governor Lawal’s cabinet along with thousands of supporters at a grand reception. The event will take place at the Gusau Trade Fair Complex, marking a significant political milestone in the state.

The statement added: “The Vice President was received by the governor, governors of Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Adamawa States; Umar Namadi, Uba Sani, Dapo Abiodun, and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as well as the governors of Plateau, Kano, and Sokoto States; Caleb Mutfwang, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.

“Also on ground to receive him is the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the APC National Chairman, APC Governors Forum Chairman, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, as well as ministers, party chieftains, and other dignitaries.”

Governor Lawal formally defected from the PDP to the APC on March 9. The defection, the statement said, followed extensive consultations with party leaders, elders, and supporters across the state.

In a statement issued by the PDP in Zamfara at the time, the party said: “The Government and PDP family of Zamfara State wish to formally inform the general public of an important political development following extensive consultations with stakeholders, political leaders, elders, and supporters across the state.
