Newcastle end 70-year wait with thrilling Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool

Newcastle United made history on Sunday, securing their first domestic trophy in 70 years with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
The Magpies delivered a spirited performance, with goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak ensuring a memorable night for their devoted supporters.
Newcastle set the tone for their triumph just before halftime when towering defender Dan Burn rose highest to meet a corner kick, heading the ball past Liverpool’s goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The goal sent the Newcastle fans into wild celebrations, as they edged closer to ending their long wait for silverware.

Buoyed by their first-half lead, Eddie Howe’s men extended their advantage early in the second half. Swedish striker Alexander Isak displayed his composure in the 52nd minute, slotting the ball into the net to put Newcastle in firm control of the final.
Liverpool, the Premier League leaders, fought back desperately, and Federico Chiesa managed to pull one back deep into stoppage time. However, Newcastle’s resolute defense held firm, ensuring they lifted their first major domestic trophy since 1955.
