Football fans across the world are mourning as heartbreaking reports emerge from Portugal, claiming that Liverpool and Portuguese national team star Diogo Jota has died in a tragic car accident in Spain. He was 28 years old.

According to Portuguese media outlets, the fatal crash occurred along the A-52 highway in Cernadilla, Zamora, located in Spain’s Castilla and León region. Jota was reportedly travelling with his younger brother, André Jota, a 26-year-old professional footballer, when the accident happened.

“The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire,” the emergency services stated.

They added that the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) were immediately notified of the incident.

Details about the circumstances leading to the accident and the condition of Jota’s brother André remain unclear as of now.

Diogo Jota, who made his mark as a forward for Liverpool and the Portuguese national team, was widely admired for his skill, pace, and work ethic on the pitch.

His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the football world, with tributes already pouring in from clubs, teammates, and fans globally.
