Mikel Merino’s hader seals Arsenal’s narrow win over Chelsea

Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea in their Premier League clash on Sunday, thanks to a decisive header from Mikel Merino.
Heading into the match, the Gunners were trailing league leaders Liverpool by 15 points. With the Reds out of domestic action this weekend due to their Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United, Mikel Arteta’s men had a golden opportunity to close the gap.
Arsenal dominated the first half, creating several clear-cut chances, but they were unable to convert their superiority into a commanding lead. Merino’s well-timed header from a corner kick stood as the only goal of the game, despite the home side’s relentless attacking display.

The second half saw a more cautious approach from both sides, with neither team able to find the back of the net. However, Arsenal’s narrow win ensured they reduced the deficit to 12 points, keeping their slim title hopes alive with nine games remaining.
After the international break, Arsenal will host Fulham, while Liverpool take on Everton in a highly anticipated Merseyside Derby.
