Breaking…Nigerians thrown into darkness as national grid suffers first collapse in 2026

Nigeria’s national grid experienced its first collapse of the year on Friday, plunging several parts of the country into darkness and disrupting electricity supply.
Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that power generation dropped sharply to 0 megawatts around 1 p.m., indicating a total system failure.

The outage affected homes, businesses, and critical services, raising fresh concerns about the stability and reliability of the nation’s power infrastructure. Authorities are yet to provide detailed explanations on the cause of the collapse or the timeline for full restoration.
