Grace Ike bags media leadership, civic engagement award at Emporium 10th Anniversary

…. Charges journalists to choose credibility over clicks
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike was on Thursday honoured with the Media Leadership and Civic Engagement Award as she graced the Emporium Lecture and Awards held to mark the media outfit’s 10th anniversary.
In her goodwill message, Ike described ten years of consistent and credible journalism as “no small feat,” calling it a testament to resilience, vision and an unrelenting commitment to the values that define the profession.
She congratulated the Publisher, editorial team and the entire Emporium family, saying their work has earned the celebration.
On the event theme, “From Clicks to Credibility: Digital Media’s Role in Deepening Nigeria’s Democracy,” Ike warned that in an era where the speed of information often outpaces its accuracy, credibility is non-negotiable. “It is the foundation upon which democracy is built and sustained,” she said.

Ike pledged that the NUJ FCT Council will continue to support media houses that choose truth over traffic and accountability over applause.
She urged journalists to see themselves as partners in nation-building: telling society’s stories, holding power to account, and spotlighting positive examples such as those honoured at the event.
“By celebrating credible leadership, we encourage others to raise their standards and collectively expand the space for good governance, peace, and development,” she said, adding that today’s recognition is both a reward and a reminder to deliver even greater service.
“May this honour strengthen your resolve to lead with humility, fairness, and courage.”
She congratulated all award recipients and urged them to wear their recognition as a responsibility. Ike closed by wishing Emporium a happy 10th anniversary and expressing hope that the next decade will be even greater.
