World Cup Qualifiers: Super Eagles face goalkeeping crisis as Nwabali suffers injury

Nigeria’s build-up to the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers has been dealt a major blow following an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
The 29-year-old, who plays for Chippa United in South Africa, was stretchered off during the first half of Tuesday’s league clash against Richards Bay after going down in visible discomfort. His club’s medical team is currently assessing the severity of the injury, with updates expected in the coming days.
The setback comes at a difficult time for the Super Eagles, who are preparing for crucial qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.

Nigeria is already grappling with a goalkeeping crisis, as Maduka Okoye remains unavailable due to a two-month suspension for illegal betting activities. This leaves the coaching crew with limited options, including Amas Obasogie, a Tanzania-based goalkeeper yet to make his senior debut, and Adebayo Adeleye of Greek side Volos NPS, who has just one international cap.
