Jordan Torunarigha replaces injured Nathan Tella in Nigeria’s squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Jordan Torunarigha has been called up to replace Nathan Tella in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Tella, who was initially included in the squad, withdrew due to an injury. The winger was only named on the bench in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, and after the match, Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso confirmed that he was not fully fit to play.
Torunarigha, a Belgian-born defender, last featured for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

With just one cap for Nigeria, the KAA Gent center-back will be eager to prove himself and strengthen Nigeria’s defense in these crucial World Cup qualifying matches.
As the Super Eagles prepare for the qualifiers, Torunarigha’s inclusion adds depth to the squad, and fans will be hoping for a strong performance from the team in their bid to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
