NUJ mourns passing of veteran journalist Dr. Leon Usigbe

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has announced the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of its most respected members, Dr. Leon Usigbe.
The veteran journalist died on Friday, July 25, 2025, after a brief illness.
Dr. Usigbe was first treated at the State House Clinic but was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where he sadly passed away despite medical efforts.
A native of Uromi in Edo State, Dr. Usigbe built a distinguished journalism career with Vanguard Newspaper, where he served in various capacities across Katsina, Kaduna, and Abuja.
He was especially noted for his dedicated coverage of the House of Representatives, earning a reputation for professionalism, depth, and integrity.
He later served as Media Aide to former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Masari.
He returned to Vanguard before joining the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, where he was promoted to Bureau Chief.

He covered the State House and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A dedicated professional, Dr. Usigbe’s contributions profoundly impacted journalism. His unwavering commitment to truth and integrity will be greatly missed by colleagues, friends, and the wider community.
He was a journalist to be proud of—one who upheld the ethics of the profession with dignity and courage.
A tireless reporter, he was deeply committed to truth, accuracy, and giving voice to the voiceless.
His passion for ethical journalism and storytelling earned him immense respect and admiration.
His passing comes at a crucial time when the media’s role in promoting peace, development, and accountability is vital. His absence leaves a significant void.
On behalf of the entire NUJ FCT Council, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, the management of the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, friends, and all who were touched by his work and kindness.
