Troops intercept suspected terrorist couriers, recover ammunition in Kogi

Troops from the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have successfully intercepted suspected terrorist logistics couriers and recovered ammunition in Kogi State.

The operation was the result of a coordinated, intelligence-driven campaign spanning three months, aimed at disrupting terrorist activities within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

On March 29, troops deployed along the Jamata–Owara road in Lokoja local government area intercepted a suspect conveying items on a motorcycle.

The Army said the motorcycle had been modified with a concealed compartment for transporting ammunition.

The suspect was linked to known terrorist elements, prompting follow-up operations. The soldiers also arrested Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, described as a high-profile ammunition courier on a security watch list.

In a separate operation on April 20, soldiers mounted a checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba road in Lokoja local government area.

The troops intercepted a Toyota bus conveying two suspects travelling from Makurdi to Obajana. The suspects were identified as Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 314 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The soldiers also recovered three AK-47 magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat.

Other items recovered include mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a national identification number slip and an identity card. The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Brigade.

The Army said the operations highlight efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics networks and restrict their movement.
