NUJ FCT Council announces 2025 press week celebration

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council has officially announced the kickoff of its highly anticipated 2025 Press Week, scheduled to run from Friday, July 18 to Friday, July 25, 2025.
This year’s edition promises to be memorable, with a lineup of engaging activities designed to celebrate the media profession, promote press freedom, and foster unity among journalists within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
The theme for this year’s Press Week is
“Journalism in a Changing World: Media, Press Freedom, Democracy & Society”.
The event will bring together journalists, media practitioners, and stakeholders to engage in discussions, workshops, and activities aimed at enhancing the standards and ethics of journalism in Nigeria.
Highlights of the activities to mark the event are as follows;
A Muslim prayer at NASFAT Mosque Utako by 2pm on Friday July 18. There will be a Free Medical Check up for journalists at NUJ FCT Secretariat, Utako on Saturday July 19 by 9am.
A Thanksgiving Church Service at Word Harvest Church, Jikwoyi by 9:00am on Sunday, July 20th and this will be followed by a ‘Walk for Press Freedom’ from VIO Office, Berger Roundabout by 7:00am on Monday, July 21st.

A Public lecture will take place at the Borno Rivers Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja by 9am on Tuesday, July 22nd with address by Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), H.E. Barrister Nyesom Wike, CON and the Guest Speaker as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, H.E. Rt Hon. Tajudeen Abbas PhD, GCON.
The Chairman of the occasion is H. E. Senator Umaru Tanko Al-majura, former Governor of Nasarawa State.
This will be followed by Community Service and Press Club Inauguration on Thursday, July 24.
The week-long event will end with the Grand Finale/ Jeans Party at NUJ Secretariat, Utako by 3:00 pm on Friday, July 25.
Members of the press and the public are invited to participate in the various events planned throughout the week.
NUJ FCT Council remains committed to promoting professionalism, freedom of the press, and the welfare of journalists.
