A devastating incident has struck Golantabal village in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, where 13-year-old twin sisters tragically drowned while swimming in a pond on Saturday afternoon.

The incident was confirmed on Sunday by the Adamawa State Police Command to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to police sources, the twins, identified as Hassana and Hussaina Garabiya, had spent the day working on a farm. On their way home around 2:30 p.m., they reportedly stopped to cool off by swimming in a nearby pond—a decision that would sadly end in tragedy.

Locals said the alarm was raised when the girls failed to return home on time, prompting a search. Their lifeless bodies were later recovered from the water.

Authorities received a distress call around 3:50 p.m., prompting immediate action. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team to the site and worked with local divers, who managed to retrieve the bodies of the two girls.

The remains were taken to the Cottage Hospital in Song and placed in the morgue for autopsy.

Police offered their sympathies to the grieving family and advised parents and guardians to be vigilant, especially during the rainy season, and to warn children about the dangers of swimming in natural water bodies.
