In a swift response to recent security breaches and the tragic loss of lives within the university community, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has ordered the immediate shutdown of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL).

The decision comes amid growing concerns for the safety and well-being of students, staff, and nearby residents.

Governor Bago expressed deep sympathy to the families of those affected by the unrest, stressing that the protection and welfare of everyone within the institution remain a top priority for his administration.

The closure was announced on Tuesday through an official statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman. According to the statement, the state government is taking urgent steps to restore normalcy and ensure lasting peace in and around the university.

“The government is deeply saddened by the recent incidents. We urge the university community to stay calm, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies during this period,” Usman stated.

He further assured the public that thorough investigations are ongoing and that those responsible for the violence will be brought to justice.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding law and order, and to protecting the lives and property of all citizens in Niger State.
