ECOWAS showcases peace, security initiatives at African Defence Summit in Abuja

The ECOWAS Commission has restated its commitment to strengthening peace and security in West Africa through its active participation at the African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit, held in Abuja from August 25 to 27, 2025.
As part of the three-day summit, the Commission hosted an exhibition showcasing a diverse collection of its publications. These materials highlighted ECOWAS’ wide-ranging interventions, including conflict prevention, curbing the proliferation of small arms, promoting democracy, and advancing women, peace, and security initiatives.

The exhibition also reinforced the Commission’s broader mandate of fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development across the West African sub-region.
Through this engagement, ECOWAS reaffirmed its role as a key player in regional security architecture, working hand-in-hand with defence chiefs and stakeholders to address evolving security challenges in Africa.
