In a bid to reinforce security governance and conflict prevention in West Africa, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) at the ECOWAS headquarters.

The key agenda of the meeting was the renewal of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at deepening institutional collaboration in tackling security challenges across the region.

Leading the ISS delegation were Ms. Lori-Anne Théroux-Bénoni and Colonel (Ret.) Hassane Koné, who reaffirmed ISS’s dedication to supporting ECOWAS with research-driven policy recommendations and technical expertise.

The discussions emphasized the need for evidence-based policymaking and enhanced cooperation to address emerging threats that continue to impact the region’s stability.

With West Africa facing a growing wave of security challenges, including insurgencies, transnational crime, and political instability, the renewed partnership between ECOWAS and ISS highlights the importance of strategic alliances in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development.

By leveraging ISS’s expertise and ECOWAS’s regional influence, both organizations are committed to fostering proactive solutions that will strengthen security efforts across the region.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards ensuring that West Africa remains resilient in the face of evolving security threats, reinforcing the role of regional and international partnerships in shaping a safer and more prosperous future.
