Benue: 13 abducted Benue Links passengers regain freedom after daring rescue

Thirteen passengers of Benue Links who were kidnapped in Eke, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, have finally regained their freedom following a well-coordinated rescue operation.

The rescue mission, which was spearheaded by the Nigerian Police Force with strong support from local vigilante groups, successfully led to the safe release of the abducted passengers.

Chairman of Okpokwu LGA, Hon. Adah Inalegwu, confirmed the development on Sunday. He revealed that a joint team of police operatives and community vigilantes launched a thorough combing of the surrounding forest, applying sustained pressure on the kidnappers. The strategy paid off, ultimately forcing the abductors to abandon their captives.

That effort yielded results on Saturday with the rescue of two captives. According to Inalegwu, further reinforcements came from youths mobilised from neighbouring Kogi State, increasing pressure on the kidnappers.

This intensified action forced the abductors to release the remaining eleven victims at Oando village around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Inalegwu credited the operation’s success to enhanced logistics provided by Governor Hyacinth Alia, as well as strengthened surveillance and tracking capabilities.

“The provision of logistics by Governor Hyacinth Alia, with improved security surveillance and tracking, led to the rescue of the victims,” he said.
