He held the position of National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from November 2021 until December 20, 2024, when the Court of Appeal in Nigeria ruled for his removal. The court’s decision affirmed Rt. Hon. S. K. E. Udeh-Okoye as his replacement.

Early life
Born as a native of Obodo, Amaimo in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State on June 18, 1965, Anyanwu was raised in a politically aware environment.
He attended Modern Day Primary School in Aba and proceeded to Iho Comprehensive School, Ikeduru, for his secondary education.
Furthering his studies, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s in Public Administration from the University of Port Harcourt.
His academic pursuits extended to global institutions such as Cambridge Judge Business School and Harvard Kennedy School, shaping his leadership and administrative acumen.
Business ventures
Before venturing into politics, Anyanwu established himself as a business executive.
He founded several companies, including Sonada Oil Ltd, Sam Daddy Farms, Sam Daddy Investments Ltd, Newseed Communications, and New View Engineering Nig. Ltd.
These businesses operate in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, and telecommunications.

Political career
Anyanwu’s political journey began in 2003 when he was appointed the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikeduru Local Government Area.
In 2004, he was elected as the council chairman under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), serving until 2007.
His success at the local government level propelled him to the Imo State House of Assembly, where he represented Ikeduru State Constituency from 2007 to 2015.
During this period, he chaired the House Committee on Public Accounts, Finance, and Commerce and was the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Ethics, Petitions, and Privileges.
In 2015, he transitioned to national politics, securing a seat in the Nigerian Senate to represent Imo East Senatorial District.
As a senator in the 8th National Assembly, Anyanwu played an active role, chairing the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

One of his significant legislative efforts was sponsoring the bill for the establishment of the South East Development Commission, which was passed by the Senate but vetoed by then-President Muhammadu Buhari.
His political ambitions continued as he contested for the PDP governorship ticket in the 2019 Imo State elections but was unsuccessful.
However, in 2021, he was elected as the PDP National Secretary, a position he held until December 20, 2024, when the Court of Appeal ruled in favor of his replacement, Rt. Hon. S. K. E. Udeh-Okoye.
In 2023, he emerged as the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Imo State following Emeka Ihedioha’s withdrawal from the race.

Anyanwu is a Christian and he is happily married and blessed with children.

Beyond politics and business, Anyanwu is deeply involved in philanthropy.
He is the founder and president of So Others May Eat (S.O.M.E) Foundation and Sam Daddy Mustardseed Foundation, both of which focus on supporting underprivileged individuals.
