2 Kogi varsity students arrested over killing of 300- level undergraduate

Two students of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Ayingba, Kogi State, have been arrested in connection with the killing of a 300-level Biochemistry student, David Ocholi Solomon.
The arrests were confirmed on Saturday during a condolence visit by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, to the family of the deceased in Lokoja.
According to a statement issued by the institution’s spokesperson, Uredo Omale, the suspects were apprehended within two hours of the incident by the university’s internal security team before being handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
Ogbo described the incident as tragic and distressing, noting that the development had thrown the university community into mourning.
“I received news of the unfortunate incident while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association at the University of Ibadan. This is deeply painful and distressing,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the university was collaborating with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and to identify all those involved.

He reiterated the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, violence, and other criminal activities, stressing that measures had been intensified to strengthen security within and around the campus.
Ogbo also disclosed that additional security reforms would be introduced to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
He commended Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, traditional rulers, and security agencies for their support in maintaining peace within the university community.
Responding on behalf of the family, the father of the deceased, Solomon Idachaba, appreciated the university management for the condolence visit and the swift arrest of the suspects, urging authorities to ensure that justice is served.
