₦100m sent to ex-IGP’s son was error, quickly reversed – Police

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that the ₦100 million transferred into the personal bank account of Victor Egbetokun, son of the outgoing Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, was made in error and was promptly reversed.
According to the police, the clarification followed an online report alleging that Victor received the funds from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account. The NPF stated that the transfer was accidental and corrected immediately after it was noticed.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Monday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said Victor immediately reported the unexpected inflow and instructed that the funds be returned.
“You could remember when he (Omoyele Sowore) said N100 million was paid into the account of the son of the IGP.”
“I called the son of the IGP immediately to know what was going on, and he explained,” Hundeyin said.

“He said he saw N100 million in his account, and he told his accounts officer to reverse the money immediately, which he did. He printed out his statement of account. He showed me.”
According to Hundeyin, the funds were returned to the Anambra State Government’s account shortly after the transaction was detected. He described the incident as a mistaken transfer.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that Victor subsequently closed the account and has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the allegation.
The development comes amid heightened public scrutiny over the handling of security funds by government officials.
