Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has withdrawn from presiding over two cases involving former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The development was announced during Thursday’s court session, where Justice Egwuatu stated that his decision was based on personal reasons and in the interest of justice.

Although the judge did not elaborate on the specific grounds for his withdrawal, such steps are typically taken to ensure fairness, transparency, and public confidence in judicial proceedings.

Malami is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering. The anti-graft agency has accused the former minister of financial misconduct during his time in office.
