Tension as bandits raid mosque during prayers, kill imam, one other

A wave of terror swept through Kiba Ruwa, a community in the Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, when bandits launched a violent attack on Muslims observing the Subh (dawn) prayer early Saturday morning.
According to local residents who spoke with Egbe Mekun Parrots, the armed attackers stormed the mosque at daybreak and opened fire on worshippers gathered for the early morning prayer, causing panic and chaos across the community.
Two people, including the imam who was leading the prayer, were confirmed dead in the incident. Several other worshippers were taken away by the gunmen, though the exact number of abductees has not yet been established.
Security operatives have reportedly been notified, and the community remains tense as search-and-rescue operations commence.

The latest assault comes just weeks after bandits struck in neighbouring Kebbi State, attacking the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, where 26 students were abducted.
All military personnel previously posted to the school were said to have been summoned to Abuja for questioning as authorities try to understand why the security post was vacated shortly before the school was attacked.
