Kaduna plans to recruit 9,000 health workers over 5 years

The Kaduna State Government has unveiled plans to recruit an additional 9,000 health workers over the next five years to strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki, during a one-day Media Engagement Meeting held in Kaduna.
The event, organised by the Kaduna Contributory Health Insurance Authority (KADCHMA) in partnership with Lafiya: UK-Nigeria Partnership for a Healthier Future, focused on strengthening health communication and coverage in the state.
Maiyaki said, “Gov. Uba Sani recently gave the approval for the immediate recruitment of 1,800 health workers under various categories.
“This no-mean-feat will be replicated in the next five years, with a view to bolstering the state’s health workforce.”

He noted that since assuming office in 2023, Governor Sani has made the health sector a top priority.
“He has made health not as a priority but as a right for all the citizens of the state.“He is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the realisation of this invaluable objective.“Universal heath coverage is key to the Sani-led administration and he has ensured the health sector’s budget is well above the national average of 15 per cent.”
The commissioner added that the state had significantly improved health workers’ salaries, attracting more professionals back into the system.
“Doctors and other health workers are now rushing back to the state’s health sector.“Kaduna State is leading the nineteen Northern States in this direction,” Maiyaki said.
