Niger Gov Bago declares 30th, 31st October as work-free days ahead of LG elections

Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced that Thursday, 30th October, and Friday, 31st October 2025, will be observed as state-wide work-free days.
The move is aimed at enabling citizens to actively participate in the upcoming Local Government Elections scheduled for Saturday, 1st November 2025.
A statement from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, explained that the work-free days are designed to give all eligible voters ample time to visit their polling units and cast their votes without hindrance.

The statement further highlighted that markets, banks, financial institutions, and public offices will remain closed during this period. Additionally, movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted, with exceptions only for those engaged in essential services.
According to the SSG, “Government is encouraging citizens to come out en masse and perform their civic responsibilities on Saturday, 1st November, 2025. This election provides yet another opportunity for Nigerlites to elect capable leaders who will champion development and represent our collective interests at the grassroots level.”
He further disclosed that Governor Bago has directed all security agencies in the State to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, reaffirming Government’s commitment to guaranteeing a safe and hitch-free electoral process.
