Police arrest man for setting ex-girlfriend ablaze inside Ibadan barracks

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Lawal Faroq for allegedly setting his former girlfriend on fire after the end of their relationship.
According to reports gathered on Thursday, the disturbing incident occurred inside a military barracks in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
A counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the case on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that the suspect confessed to attacking the victim after claiming they had previously sworn an oath never to separate.
However, following the collapse of their relationship, Faruq reportedly became enraged and doused the woman with petrol before setting her on fire.
Makama wrote, “The victim, Omolola Hassan, was reportedly doused with petrol and set on fire by the suspect, who was said to have been angered over the breakdown of their relationship.

“According to witnesses, military personnel at the barracks quickly intervened and extinguished the fire before rushing the victim to Yawiri Hospital, Akobo, for medical treatment.
“The suspect, who claimed that both had taken an oath never to separate, is currently in custody.”
It was gathered that soldiers within the barracks swiftly rescued the victim and took her to a hospital for emergency care before the suspect was handed over to the police.
When contacted, the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident in a brief telephone response.
“Investigation is ongoing,” Osifeso stated.
