Breaking…Yakubu hands over to May Agbamuche-Mbu as acting INEC chair

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has officially handed over the leadership of the electoral body to Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, who will now serve as Acting Chairman.
The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday during an ongoing meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu, the oldest serving National Commissioner at INEC, will oversee the commission’s operations pending the appointment of a substantive chairman by the Federal Government.
Announcing the transition, Professor Yakubu urged staff of the commission to extend their full support and cooperation to the acting chairman.

“I have today handed over to Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission. I urge all commissioners and directors to give her the same level of cooperation and dedication that you have shown me,” he said.
The development marked a temporary leadership shift within the commission as preparations continued for upcoming electoral activities across the country.
Recall that Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu, a seasoned administrator and lawyer, has been part of the INEC management team since her appointment as a National Commissioner, and she is expected to maintain continuity in the commission’s ongoing reforms and programmes.
