Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has described the legal profession as more than just a career path, calling it the “conscience of the nation.”

He made the remark on Sunday at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.

Addressing a distinguished audience of legal professionals and dignitaries, Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice sector reform, noting that it remains a key pillar of his governance agenda.

“Since assuming office, we have made justice sector reform a cornerstone of our governance. Just a few examples will suffice,” he stated, outlining ongoing measures while emphasizing that these reforms form part of a broader strategy to make Enugu a hub for investment, innovation, and inclusive growth.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar III, chaired the event. The keynote address was delivered by Julius Malema, leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters and a member of the South African Parliament, whose presence underscored the continental relevance of the gathering.

The 2025 NBA AGC brought together legal minds, thought leaders, and policymakers from across Africa, providing a platform to debate critical national and continental issues particularly the role of law in building just, progressive, and inclusive societies.
