IGP extend grace period for tinted glass permit enforcement to October

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has officially extended the deadline for enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit requirement on vehicles with tinted windows. The new enforcement date has been moved to October 2, 2025.
This extension allows motorists additional time to comply with the regulations before strict enforcement begins. The announcement was made on Monday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to take advantage of this grace period to secure the necessary permits and avoid penalties once enforcement kicks in.
According to the statement, “This decision follows a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive. In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.”
The statement further explained that “the extension will also provide room for the continued fine-tuning of verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.”

It reaffirmed that the authorized platform for applications remains https://possap.gov.ng and advised citizens to disregard any unofficial channels.
The public was urged to report all forms of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorized processing to the appropriate police authorities, including via the dedicated hotline: 09169967000.
The statement appreciated the cooperation of Nigerians and reiterated the Force’s commitment to balancing public convenience with robust security measures for the safety of all.
