El-Rufai confirms opposition coalition, says Tinubu will be sent back to Lagos

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed that a high-level meeting involving key opposition figures was held in Abuja on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the formation of a new political front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking after the meeting, El-Rufai boldly declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be “sent back to Lagos” in the next election, signaling the coalition’s determination to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Interestingly, the former governor praised Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, saying he is “doing a great job” and would be retained in the next administration, despite the broader opposition to Tinubu’s government.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reportedly been adopted as the official platform for the emerging opposition coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and other prominent political leaders.
The trio are said to have agreed to adopt the party after a meeting on Tuesday night.

“They have adopted the African Democratic Party as the coalition party, all of them (Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai) are working together. They came to the conclusion last night up till the early hours of this morning,” the insider said.
Addressing a gathering at Arewa TechFest in Katsina, on Wednesday, El-Rufai said, “Yesterday at 8 PM, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos.
“Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, we will still keep the minister because he is doing good work.”
