Nigeria’s Francis Orbih elected to Badminton World Federation Council

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Mr. Francis Orbih, has been successfully elected as a Council Member of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
The election took place during the BWF Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, April 26, in Xiamen, China, where Orbih emerged victorious over top contenders from other African nations.
His election marks a significant milestone, as he will now represent Nigeria alongside Cameroon’s Odette Assembe Engoulou on the prestigious Council. Meanwhile, candidates from Zimbabwe and Egypt, Chipo Zumburani and Hadia ElSaid respectively, were unsuccessful in their bids.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Orbih thanked the Federal Government of Nigeria, with special appreciation to the National Sports Commission, for their unwavering support throughout his campaign. He dedicated his victory to the advancement of badminton in Nigeria and across Africa.
Orbih’s election is seen as a boost for Nigeria’s visibility in the global badminton community and a major step toward strengthening the country’s influence in the sport’s international governance.
