In a decisive move to tackle the recent wave of attacks and killings in Minna, Niger State Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago has imposed a 6pm to 6am curfew across the state capital.

The curfew, announced during a high-level security stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House on Tuesday, also includes restrictions on the operations of commercial motorcycles and tricycles during the curfew hours.

The meeting was attended by traditional rulers and heads of various security agencies.

Governor Bago explained that the curfew is a necessary step to curb the escalating security threats and restore order in the capital. He, however, noted that medical emergencies will be exempt from the curfew to ensure that lives are not put at further risk.

“We will not fold our arms while criminals continue to terrorize innocent residents. The security of lives and property remains a top priority,” the governor stated firmly.

To further bolster security efforts, the governor directed all district, village, and ward heads to begin proper documentation of visitors in their communities. He also issued a stern warning that any property found to be sheltering criminals or drug cartels will be demolished.

Minna has recently experienced a troubling resurgence of thuggery, violent attacks, and killings, leaving many residents on edge. The new security measures, according to Governor Bago, are aimed at restoring peace and deterring criminal activities in the city.
